Solar DC&AC

Solar power for your yacht.

Select the appliances you use and see the total power (kW), daily consumption (kWh) and the number of batteries and solar panels you need, straight away.

1Your appliances

Tick the appliances you use on board. You can change the quantity, power and daily running time to match your yacht, and add anything that is not on the list. DC appliances run straight from the batteries, AC appliances through the inverter.

2System settings

The defaults suit a yacht cruising the Aegean; leave them as they are if you are unsure.

Advanced settings
What remains after panel heat, shading, cable and charging losses.

How we calculate

A solar system in four steps.

The calculator applies the basic sizing rules widely used for yacht electrical systems.

01

Daily consumption

Power × quantity × daily running time is added up for every appliance. Inverter losses are added for AC appliances, and the result is given in kWh a day.

02

Batteries

Daily consumption is multiplied by the days without sun and divided by the usable share: 80% for LiFePO4, 50% for AGM. On 24 and 48 V systems, 12 V batteries are wired in series.

03

Solar panels

Daily consumption is divided by the peak sun hours of the least sunny month in your period and by the system efficiency, so production is enough in every month of that period.

04

Inverter & MPPT

The inverter is sized to the total power of the AC appliances plus 25% headroom. For the MPPT charge controller, panel power is divided by the battery voltage.

Survey & quote

Let's plan your system on board.

We will look at the panel layout, batteries and wiring on your yacht, then propose the right system with our quote.
